Touch and Go but Forever Solid

You know how they say "you don't know what you've got until it's gone"?
I don't want to be that person. I feel like if maybe I soak up life and appreciate the small things and pray for the big then I'll be one of those people that have what they have until they're gone. I'd much rather be that.

It's funny how a memory attaches itself to a place,
a mother's smile made eternal on her daughter's face.
Blue-green eyes an ocean wide,
with a fierce draw like the pull of the tide.

Souls as different as night and day
but which is which who can say?
Lessons learned and pictures taken
an inner passion soon to awaken.

All these things are deemed so small
but to some, they're the biggest of them all.
Everything good in life I learned from my mother,
she knows me better than any other.

So when there comes a glorious day
I have to stand before my maker and say
what exactly it was that molded me
I can proudly say...
"She told me to be who I wanted to be"
